For the third time this season, Hofstra freshman pitcher Olivia Galati was named CAA softball rookie of the week. After allowing one hit and striking out 10 in a 3-0 win over Connecticut on Saturday, Galati tossed a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts in a 2-1 win over Boston University on Sunday. The West Babylon and St. John the Baptist product is 7-2 with a 1.53 ERA and 70 strikeouts.
Hofstra senior second baseman Matt Prokopowicz, of Massapequa, was named CAA co-player of the week after going 12-for-21 with 10 RBIs to lead the baseball team to four consecutive wins. The leadoff hitter has a .419 average.
Hofstra 21, Oregon 8: Senior Corrine Gandolfi (Northport) scored six of her career-high seven goals in a 13-5 first half for No. 19 Hofstra (6-2), which has won three straight games. Stephanie Rice and Jill Maier each added three goals and one assist, and Mary Cuddihy made seven saves. Jana Drummond and Alex Breiner each scored two goals for Oregon (4-4).
