Here we are less than a week away from the midpoint of 2013 and . . . it's quiet around here. Too quiet.

Remember 2012? I do, in part because I'm the guy who most years is asked to write Newsday's yearend look back at New York sports.

Last year was a doozy, with stories that included the Giants winning the Super Bowl, Linsanity, Tebowmania and Johan Santana's no-hitter - all before 2012 was half over!

This year: not much. I'm not sure anything that has happened so far would even have cracked our Top 10 from last year.

The biggest New York-area sports story to date probably is the emergence of Matt Harvey as a major star.

Other than that . . . umm . . . Well there is A-Rod's latest PED scandal, but no one outside the news media pays attention to that stuff anymore.

So here's to a more eventful second half of the year, because if things don't pick up soon, the Year in Review feature might have to be a lot shorter than usual.
