My Tuesday newspaper story about the World Cup was too full of ratings numbers as it was, so I left out some additional data that I found interesting.
Since many ratings geeks enjoy the blog, I'll put some of it here:
New York ranked No. 1 among all markets for a couple of early matches, including France-Uruguay June 11 and Argentina-Nigeria June 12.
The rating for Argentina-Nigeria was a hefty 5.5 percent of area homes.
Argentina-Nigeria? Why? I do not know.
And that's not all: The most-watched game on Spanish-language Univision in the New York market in the tournament's first week also was Argentina-Nigeria, with an average of 443,000 viewers.
(That's Northport High's own Patti LuPone in the video above at the 1980 Grammys, around the time she spoke at my sisters' graduation ceremony at the school.)
