CBS in tricky spot with brackets

Here is my Tuesday newspaper potpourri, all of it NCAA Tournament related and most of it having appeared on the blog Monday.

But I did add an interesting quote from Jason Kint, GM of, in which he says that while the site's bracket contest has a noon Thursday deadline this year, it likely will be Tuesday evening next year.

CBS and especially Turner are extremely hopeful you will consider the start of the tournament to be Tuesday, not Thursday.

That is part of the reason the No. 1 announcing team of Jim Nantz, Clark Kellogg and Steve Kerr is working the Tuesday night doubleheader on truTV.

Anyway, here is the full version of the Kint quote:

"With the new format this year, decided to keep to the Thursday deadline for a number of reasons ranging from technical to educational. Given the new condensed period, we thought it would prove too difficult to condition millions of sports fans to organize and complete their brackets on time.

"The 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship definitely starts on Tuesday so it's our expectation at that after this year fans will be demanding the Tuesday lock so that their brackets are more consistent with the actual tournament schedule. With that in mind, this adjusted format in 2011 is likely just a one-time bridge to a new schedule in years to come."

Here is an NYT feature on one of the signature voices of the event, CBS' Gus Johnson. Pure!

In non-NCAA news, an NBA ref is suing an AP writer over his Twitter post.
