Well lookee here: They sent me to another football game! That makes five Giants games and one Jets game in 2010. I'm starting to miss my quiet time in the basement.
I guess I need to start covering the Jets more to see some exciting finishes. The one Jets game I attended was decided by one point.
The three Giants victories I have witnessed were decided by 13, 24 and 34 points. The two losses were decided by 24 and 13 points.
Anyway, it was nice to be at the ballyard. It seemed like homecoming, what with every Giants beat writer from the early 2000s in attendance for one reason or another.
That included the Times' Bill Pennington, who regaled me with tales of the top-ranked Cornell wrestling team, which he wrote about here.
After watching my recording Monday morning I could see why people who watched the game on TV were not as excited about the lights going out at NMS as were those who were there.
Believe me, it was a dramatic moment when the lights went out, plunging the place into near pitch blackness for five seconds or so.
When play resumed a second time, it did so without Fox. Eli Manning attempted a pass to Hakeem Nicks on 2nd-and-7 from the Dallas 20. It resulted in a five-yard illegal contact penalty on the Cowboys.
At that point a man in the press box was desperately trying to contact the officials to stop the game because Fox was not yet on the air.
After an additional delay of a minute or so play resumed with the Giants at the Dallas 15.
