Fantastic day of college hoops Saturday, setting the stage for Selection Sunday.
Locally the big stories were Stony Brook's narrow, come-from-ahead loss to BU and Princeton's dramatic victory over Harvard, allowing the Tigers to rent Cornell's Ivy bid to the NCAAs for just this one March.
But the biggest moment in TV terms came in the Pac-10 tournament, where CBS' Gus Johnson got to do one of his trademark buzzer-beater calls, documenting a game-winner by Washington's . . . Isaiah Thomas.
You can't make this stuff up.
Good thing I recently wrote about Gus and how much he misses his old gig working Knicks games.
A sidebar to Gus' big moment Saturday: ESPN did not play Johnson's call over the Pac-10 highlights on the late SportsCenter, opting for a local Washington account.
But the hosts properly paid tribute to Johnson when Robert Flores - at least I think it was him; it could have been Mike Hill - threw in a Gus cackle just for fun.
Welcome to March!
