While watching Wednesday night's 3D hockey telecast at the Garden with commish Gary Bettman (Cornell Class of '74), I asked him whether he has sensed a post-Olympics bounce for the sport.
He said this:
"The post-Olympic bounce is in terms of interest in the game. There is a slight spike in ratings, there is a slight spike in attendance compared to before the break.
"My sense is more children are now interested in playing the game.
"The spike or bounce you see from the Olympics is one over time. It isn't one you see in a week or two.
"It clearly raised the profile of our game and a number of our players. The hockey was great. What you saw in the Olympics was NHL playoff hockey. It looked like a Game 7.
"We were in an NHL rink on NHL ice basically using NHL rules with NHL officials using the NHL's four-man system and NHL players. That was our game."
