Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference finals was watched by an average of more than 11 million people Sunday night, making it the biggest audience for an NBA game in the history of cable TV, according to TNT.

In the New York area, the game averaged 6.8 percent of homes, which ranked 17th among the 56 major markets measured.

The NBA edged the Yankees-Red Sox game on ESPN, which averaged 6.7 percent of homes in New York. That ranked fourth among all markets behind only Boston (12.1), Providence (11.8) and Hartford (10.8).
