Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts ripped the Jets for their hiring of former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase as the team's next head coach on the WFAN midday show Thursday morning.

Benigno, a longtime Jets fan, called the Jets an "inept organization" following the hiring.

"Let’s be honest about it," Benigno said on the show Thursday. "There’s no other way to say it: The ownership of this team is a disaster. That’s it. They’re a disaster. It’s the same old, same old, same old.

"The history of this franchise tells me that Adam Gase is going to be here three, maybe four years, maybe even less than that, and he’s going to be gone. And Mike Maccagnan is going to go right out the door with him if that’s the case."

"This team has to be a winning team next year. A team that’s at least right in the mix to the end for the playoffs, at the very least. Because if it’s not, and it’s another disaster year, bro, and I think we talked about it off the air, they might clean house completely next year. That could be a possibility."

The Jets fired Todd Bowles, who went 24-40 in four seasons as the Jets' head coach, following their season-ending loss to the Patriots on Dec. 30. A source confirmed to Newsday on Wednesday that the Jets will hire Gase.

Gase, 40, went 23-25 in three seasons in Miami. While coaching the AFC East division rival, Gase went 5-1 against the Jets.

“If you can’t beat Todd Bowles five out of six times, you should be coaching high school somewhere," Benigno said.
