Jon Gruden has some concerns about Giants' new offense

Everyone seems to have an opinion about the 2014 Giants -- most of them not positive -- but only one man will be the first to analyze them in the regular season on national television.

So on a conference call with fellow reporters Tuesday, Jon Gruden of "Monday Night Football" talked about his expectations for Monday night in Detroit.

"We've been studying the Giants carefully for the last couple of weeks," Gruden said. "It's been up and down throughout the preseason. Eli Manning has changed his fundamentals, even his stance differently in the shotgun. There are a lot of different receivers. There are new linemen. There are new running backs. So not only is he learning a new system and learning new coaches, he's had to react to a lot of new players everywhere.

"It's going to be, I think, a process throughout the season. I remember when we came to Tampa [in 2002], we weren't very good at all the first few weeks. But by the end of the season, we started clicking on all cylinders and we got hot at the right time [and won the Super Bowl]."

Gruden's concerns are most about players on the roster, not the actual system put in place by new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

"Eli Manning has just got to stay committed to it," Gruden said. "He's got to continue to keep an open mind, and hopefully they get Odell Beckham [Jr.] back, because they just don't appear to have the firepower at wide receiver or at tight end that Giants teams have had in the past. And the offensive line is still a big question mark from a personnel standpoint, regardless of the system.

"So I'm more concerned with the personnel right now, the question marks that they have on the offensive side of the ball, than I am with the system."
