I have known and liked Lesley Visser since the early 1990s and was happy for her when she told me last winter that she was dating a nice fellow after her long marriage to fellow sportscaster Dick Stockton broke up.
But I didn't consider it newsworthy for the general public until CBS took the unusual step Tuesday of issuing a press release announcing that Ms. Visser is to be wed Saturday at Appleton Chapel on the Harvard campus in Cambridge, Mass.
So, what the heck, here goes: Mazel tov to Lesley and to the lucky groom, "international businessman" and 1969 Harvard hoops captain Bob Kanuth.
Visser, as you know, is a pioneer among women in sports broadcasting and in 2006 became the only woman to receive the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Radio and Television Award.
The CBS release said Louisville coach Rick Pitino introduced the bride and groom, who will honeymoon in Paris and Provence.
Among the expected guests are Leslie Moonves, Julie Chen, Tino Martinez, Nancy Kerrigan, Nick Faldo, Bill Raftery and Pitino.
Me? You know how unreliable the postal service is. I'm sure the invitation will turn up any day now!
But seriously, folks, congratulations and good luck to the happy couple.
