Dr. Marvell Scott, the former WABC-TV sportscaster, called this a.m. from Jimani, Dominican Republic, the border town from which he is helping treat Haitians injured in the recent earthquake there.
"It's been more than anything I imagined,'' said Scott, who arrived Friday night. "People are miserable. They don't have anything."
Scott said the country is beautiful - "It looks like a movie set in Africa" - but that the suffering is profound.
On a visit to the capital, he saw "bedsheet towns," communities of tents made of sheets that have gone up in an effort to "house" people.
Scott planned to organize a charity baseball game Tuesday evening to raise funds.
