As every patriotic citizen surely knows by now, Sunday is “Hockey Day in America.’’ (Memo to Congress: Isn’t it about time we finally declare it a national holiday?)

But this third annual edition of NBC’s celebration of the sport comes with a new twist:

The network’s studio crew – which includes former part-time Newsday sports reporter Liam McHugh and former full-time Newsday sports subject Mike Milbury – will be stationed at Trump (nee Wollman) Rink in Central Park before and during the tripleheader, including Capitals-Rangers at 6 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.

The nine hours of coverage, which starts at noon, will include several features on the sport, including one about the Ice Hockey in Harlem program, one about hockey hair and one about a youth hockey game at Lasker Rink in December between teams from New Jersey and Long Island that raised money for superstorm Sandy victims.
