TBS' Ernie Johnson out of playoffs

Ernie Johnson, Turner Sports’ lead baseball play-by-play announcer, will miss the postseason to be with his son, Michael, who has been seriously ill, the network announced Tuesday.

Brian Anderson, the Brewers’ play-by-play man, will replace Johnson alongside analysts Ron Darling and John Smoltz for the Yankees series in the ALDS and for the NLCS.

Johnson said in a news release that Michael has muscular dystrophy and has been in intensive care for two weeks, and is expected to remain hospitalized for several more weeks.
“At this time, my job is to be with Michael and my family,’’ he said.

Johnson’s father, Ernie Sr., a former major league pitcher and Braves announcer, died Aug. 12.

Anderson has worked playoff games for TBS the past three seasons, and last year called Roy Halladay’s no-hitter in the NLDS.

Victor Rojas will join Turner’s play-by-play roster for the division series, along with returning veterans Dick Stockton and Don Orsillo.
