Bryan Baker performed a feat not typically seen in mixed martial arts.
No, we're not talking about his proposal to his girlfriend in the cage after knocking out Joe Riggs at Bellator 43 on March 7. As wonderful a moment as that was, sports has delivered such events before.
But what Baker did right before that was more interesting. He landed a monstrous left hook to the jaw of Riggs, who crumpled to the ground faster than a poorly constructed paper airplane.
What we typically see in MMA is a fighter immediately pouncing on a fighter in that situation. More often than not, it's the right move since fighters are trained to fight until they're told to stop. The one example that comes to mind immediately is Dan Henderson's knockout of Michael Bisping at UFC 100. That was two summers ago, and we can still see Bisping falling to the fall like Rocky Balboa against Clubber Lang the first time around in "Rocky III." Henderson dove in and landed another bomb on the unconscious Bisping before referee Mario Yamasaki could get there to stop the fight. Henderson did nothing wrong then.
But to see Baker knock out Riggs, know he's knocked out and just stand there for the referee to get there was a refreshing visual. Watch the video below for more, plus the proposal.
