Anyone remember MacArthur High School wrestler and linebacker Gian Villante?
Sure you do. The 2002 grad was a stud, named to Newsday's All-Decade football team for the 2000s. He went on to wrestle for Hofstra. Did pretty well, too.
Well, he has resurfaced as an undefeated mixed martial artist. He's 5-0 and gets a shot at the heavyweight title against Bret Kohan at Ring of Combat on Feb. 19 in Atlantic City.
In his five pro fights, Villante has four knockouts and a submission victory. Four of his five fights ended in the first round. An impressive beginning. Any chance we'll see the 225-pounder on an upcoming season of "The Ultimate Fighter"? Who knows.
Fightin' Words will have more on Villante in the days leading up to the fight. In the meantime, if you're hanging out at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, you might bump into him.
