A picture is worth a thousand words, they say. Well, this Jon Jones photo required me using a few words to ask him about it. That begat Jones using more words to explain things (but combined we're nowhere near a thousand).
Quick explainer of the photo, since I only asked about it and not for specific permission to use it here (I'm a stickler for copyright laws): Jones is seen jumping up to a ridiculous height, made even more impressive that the stack of exercise equipment to his right and the "Higher" sign hanging from the wall.
Turns out it was for a Nike commercial, which is supposed to be released some time this week leading up to UFC 152 on Saturday. My hunch is that it will show up closer to Friday's weigh-ins when Jones arrives on the stage and scale in Toronto adorned in Swooshes.
Here's what Jones had to say on the photo:
“Basically, they wanted me to do some of my most dynamic workouts and exercises. I wanted to show them what kind of athlete I was.
"Before, I used to jump it and leap up and throw my feet to my side. That time I was able to have my feet go directly over, so I’ve become a higher jumper, a more explosive athlete.”
“I just took two big steps and leaped and got some pretty big air.”
Jones said his three-year deal Nike will start rolling out a few items during fight week -- you might have already seen those "Bones Knows" T-shirts -- and then more a "line" of items in the coming months.
