Three months back, there were plates of chicken parm, Caesar's salad and other treats going around the table at Carmine's in Manhattan.
Assorted MMA media were there, as were Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen. The two UFC light heavyweights, there to promote the newest season of "The Ultimate Fighter" as coaches, were cordial and friendly.
There was even an amusing phone call that occured.
At the time, I remember laughing at the situation and thinking about how odd that scene, one of humor and good-naturedness, would be come fight week for UFC 159 in April in Newark. The dichotomy of man.
Well, fight week is here and there's been little laughter. Here's what Jones had to say that day in January when asked how we should reconcile the expected mood swing:
“Fight week, when I’ve been thinking about hurting him for so long and I’m down the weight and ready to go, we won't be laughing," Jones said. "Don’t expect one of those press conferences."
