LI's Chris Weidman gets Ring of Combat title shot

Chris Weidman, the former New York state wrestling champion for Baldwin and two-time All-American at both Nassau CC and Hofstra University, makes his return to professional MMA in September.

After more than a year away from competitive fighting, Weidman (2-0) gets a middleweight title shot against Uriah Hall at Ring of Combat 31 in Atlantic City on Sept. 24, 2010.

Also on the card, Lindenhurst's Ryan LaFlare makes his second welterweight title defense against Douglas Gordon.

Weidman trains with Matt Serra and Ray Longo, and LaFlare trains with Keith Trimble at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy.

Keep an eye on lightweight Edson Barboza from Florida, too. He has the fastest leg kicks this side of WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
