A left hook sent Dennis Bermudez spinning and falling to the canvas. His wrestling background changed the course of the "Ultimate Fighter" semifinal against Akira Corassini.
Bermudez, who lives in Massapequa and trains at Long Island MMA in Lindenhurst, grabbed hold of Corassini's leg, used it to get up and then slammed him to the ground for a takedown. From there, Bermudez worked toward a guillotine choke and submitted Corassini in the first round on Wednesday's night episode.
With that victory, Bermudez, 24, reached the Ultimate Finale on Dec. 3 in Las Vegas. His opponent in that featherweight bout to determine the TUF 14 winner and a guaranteed contract with the UFC will be either Bryan Caraway or Diego Brandao.
