Gian Villante entered into a two-year Strikeforce contract last December with a pair of Ring of Combat championship belts (light heavyweight and heavyweight) to his credit.
Villante then lost his first two bouts in Strikeforce, a slugfest against Chad Griggs in February and a decision to Lorenz Larkin in June.
But this is August now, and Villante, a former MacArthur High School wrestler and football player, has some things figured out.
He used his superior wrestling skills for all three rounds and took down Keith Berry time after time to win by unanimous decision at Strikeforce Challengers 18 in Las Vegas on Friday night. All three judges scored it 30-27 in favor of Villante (8-3).
