Count boxing promoter Lou DiBella among those who are interested in seeing what happens when undefeated, five-division boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. fights UFC champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match later this summer.

“I wanna see it,” DiBella said Wednesday during Bellator NYC media day in Manhattan. “It’s a friggin’ spectacle. It’s not a boxing match. It’s a spectacle.”

DiBella was there because he, too, has a stake in this whole boxing/mixed martial arts crossover. His company, DiBella Entertainment, promotes undefeated two-division boxing champion Heather Hardy, who makes her MMA debut on Saturday as Bellator hosts its first New York City card at Madison Square Garden.

“Conor’s got a big mouth,” DiBella said. “He’s a great promoter, might be the best self-promoter in the history of MMA, arguably. Sometimes he’s not my cup of tea, but other times I’m very amused by him.”

McGregor and Mayweather will box on Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on pay-per-view. Many think the buy rate could rival the record-setting 4.4 million PPV buys for Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

“He thinks he can do some damage,” DiBella said of McGregor. “I think he’s going to get smacked around, which I don’t think is bad for boxing. But it’s not a boxing match. It’s a spectacle. It’s a giant event.

“And the boxing promoters that are, like, crying and weeping and being little blanks about it, it’s jealousy and childish BS. Take it for what it is. No one is sitting there going this is the pound-for-pound boxing championship of the world. No, this is Conor McGregor against Floyd Mayweather. It’s a one-of-a-kind event, and I wanna see it as fun. And you know what, it’s happening because a lot of people want to see it. So shut the blank up and just stop. Chill out. It ain’t that serious.”
