Quinton "Rampage" Jackson weighed in at 211 pounds for UFC 144 in Japan, missing the 206-pound weight limit by a few ham sandwiches.
Jackson will forfeit 20 percent of his fight purse, which should be a substantial figure, to his opponent, Ryan Bader.
"I'm sorry 2 my fans, the @ufc and my opponent. Thanks 2 Ryan 4 taking the fight. Sorry 4 not making weight," Jackson tweeted after the weigh-ins on his verified Twitter account @Rampage4real.
What happens next for Jackson, 34, is up in the air. He lost his last fight, a title shot against Jon Jones, and was on this card in part because of his history in Japan. Jackson was one of the most popular fights in Pride, then Japan's top fighting organization.
About three and a half hours before the weigh-ins, which happened Friday at 11 p.m. ET, Jackson was still six pounds overweight. "6 more pounds 2 go....cutting weight is harder than the fight," he tweeted at 7:29 p.m. ET.
Fighters are permitted to be one pound over the weight class limit to account for differences in scales, so Jackson only needed to get to 206 pounds for his light heavyweight bout.
