George Sotiropoulos has been on an impressive run of late in the UFC, going from undercard afterthought to lightweight title contender, thanks to his ever-improving Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
But when you're a ground guy, and you get your opponent to the ground, that's not a good thing.
After seven straight wins for the Australian mixed martial artist, Sotiropoulos lost a decision to Dennis Siver at UFC 127 in Sydney, Australia. The judges scored it 30-28, 30-27, 29-28.
Siver (18-7) showed solid takedown defense, which is what you need to stop Sotiropoulos (14-3).
"He was very strong, he threw some heavy shots," Sotiropoulos said about his damaging first round. "He landed them, and I felt them."
