Both Mac Danzig and Justin Buchholz desperately needed a victory in their UFC 109 lightweight bout in order to stick around in the UFC. Presumably, the loser would show up somewhere else next time around.
Danzig, the Season 6 winner of "The Ultimate Fighter," struggled early, but gained momentum in the second round with some decent ground game, then solidified the win with a late flurry and ground game in the third round. Danzig (20-7-1) won via unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 29-28.
Buchholz (9-5) won the first round with his active punches, but couldn't mount anything else against Danzig.
From an actual fighting standpoint, not all that exciting. From the "Who will have the guts to continue their careers in the biggest MMA promotion?" point of view, slightly more exciting. Still, if you missed this free prelim bout on Spike, don't go searching YouTube for it.
