Nice UFC debut for light heavyweight Phil Davis, who won a unanimous decision over Brian Stann in a UFC 109 prelim at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Davis (5-0), a four-time All-American wrestler at Penn State, showed why as he dominated Stann on the ground for three rounds. At age 25, he's still very raw, but he threw huge knees to the body from side control. As with most highly experienced college wrestlers in their infant stages of an MMA career, Davis is very one-dimensional. The more experience he gets, the more well-rounded his game with become.
And based on his work against the overmatched Stann (8-3, 2-2 UFC), Davis could become an interesting prospect at 205 pounds.
