In a short analysis, this was a one-sided beatdown.
In a longer analysis, Cain Velasquez used his wrestling experience to outmanuever Brock Lesnar then absolutely destroyed him with his superior stand-up and ground and pound.
By way of his complete dominance of Lesnar at UFC 121 in Anaheim on Saturday, Velasquez is the new UFC heavyweight champion. He won by TKO at 4:12 of the first round.
So much for all that talk about Velasquez's cardio conditioning. He didn't even need it.
Lesnar (5-2, 5-2 UFC) pushed the pace at the opening bell, attacking Velasquez. He eventually got a takedown but Velasquez (9-0, 7-0) was able to immediately get back to his feet.
At the three-minute mark, Velasquez shot in and took down Lesnar, landing several good head shots. Lesnar was able to get back to his feet, but that didn't mean too much. Velasquez landed a big knee that dropped the former WWE champion with two minutes left.
Velasquez continued to work a big ground and pound, opening up a big cut under Lesnar's left eye. After two knockdowns, the final blows were delivered by hammerfists until referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight and deem Velasquez the first Mexican-American heayvweight champion in combat sports.
