It had been a combined 42 months since Patrick Cote and Tom Lawlor actually won a fight in the UFC. So when the two middleweights met at UFC 121 in Anaheim on Saturday, it figured that one of those streaks would end.
Lawlor kept Cote on the ground the entire first round, and although he didn't inflict any real damage, he controlled the pace and won the round on the judges' cards.
Repeat once, repeat twice, and so goes Lawlor's losing streak. Using his effective ground game, Lawlor won a boring but unanimous decision. All three judges scored it 30-27.
Cote (14-7), who once fought for the middleweight title, never had a chance to mount an offense. Lawlor took him down each round. The two time referee John McCarthy stood the fighters up for lack of action on the ground, Lawlor (7-3) easily took Cote down.
