Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, the UFC light heavyweight champion, will finally defend his title at UFC 126 on March 19 in New Jersey, the UFC confirmed Tuesday.
Rua will face former champion Rashad Evans in the main event at the Prudential Center. UFC last came to Jersey in March 2010 with Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy and Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir as the headliners. More than 17,000 fans attended.
Also on the card is Urijah Faber in his promotional debut against former bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland. Should Faber win, it's likely he'll get a title shot against Dominick Cruz later in the year.
Other rumored fights not yet officially announced by the UFC include:
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Chael Sonnen
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Brendan Schaub
Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus
Ricardo Almeida vs. Mike Pyle
Kurt Pellegrino vs. Gleison Tibau
Edson Barboza vs. Anthony Njokuani
Luiz Cane vs. Karlos Vemola
Miller Almeida and Pellegrino are all Jersey guys, so at least one of them will be on the main card. Let's hope the Edson Barboza fight is for real, and makes the pay-per-view card. That kid is going to be a star.
