SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Rick Story opened his UFC 139 welterweight bout on Saturday night with the anger you'd expect after his surprise loss to Charlie Brenneman on 24 hours' notice five months ago.
He brought a barrage of punches to Martin Kampmann's face. But Kampmann recovered and returned the favor.
After 15 minutes of fighting, where both fighters seemed gassed at the end, it was Kampmann (18-5) who walked out of the octagon victorious. The judges gave him the split decision, scoring it 30-27 and 29-28 in favor of Kampmann. One judge scored it 29-28 in favor of Story (13-5).
