SAN JOSE, Calif -- Shamar Bailey missed weight Friday, coming in at 158 pounds for his lightweight fight against Danny Castillo on Saturday. Those two pounds cost him 20 percent of his paycheck for his UFC 139 bout here in the HP Pavilion.
And Danny Castillo prevented Bailey from winning with a technical knockout with eight seconds left in the first round.
Castillo actually slipped early in the round after a missed kick, and Bailey (12-5) charged in. Castillo (12-4) quickly gained control of Bailey and dominated him the entire round. He got a full mount in the final minute and landed a series of punches late that stopped the bout.
"I felt really disrespected at the weigh-in," Castillo said. "You're supposed to be a professional. Don't come in two pounds overweight and then say you can't lose any more weight."
