Frank Mir did it again.
Three years ago, he became the first man to knock out Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Saturday night, at UFC 140 in Toronto, Mir became the first fighter to submit Nogueira, winning by kimura with 1:22 left in the first round.
"Now I'm the first person to knock out him, and the first person to submit him," Mir said.
Mir was in trouble earlier in the round as Nogueira hit him with three solid right hooks when the two were in the clinch up against the cage.
"I was stunned, he caught me," Mir said.
Mir fell to the ground and the two heavyweight submission specialists kept the fight there until it ended.
The 260-pound Mir (16-5) rolled the 239-pound Nogueira (33-7-1) over, then rolled him once more. When the rolling stopped, it was Nogueira who was tapping out to Mir's submission. Nogueira's right arm and shoulder appeared to be broken, or at least separated by the submission. It was the 14th time in Mir's career that his fight ended in the first round.
So much for the talk that Nogueira lost to Mir the first time only because he was injured.
