NEWARK -- Many nice words have been said about Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes, just by people other than Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes.

These two light heavyweights spent the run-up, ok the past several months, taking every opportunity afforded them to hammer the other guy with words.

On Saturday at UFC 159 in the Prudential Center, they used their fists and legs to do the hammering. Mainly the fists, though, which favored Davis.

Davis won the bout by unanimous decision, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

Magalhaes (11-6, 1 NC) is a BJJ specialist, but Davis, a wrestler at Penn State, did a superb job in keeping the fight standing. He showed a much improved striking game as well.

"Thanks to VInny for helping me elevate my game," said Davis (11-1).
