Here's a staggering statistic, more so than takedown percentage and total strikes landed: 42 percent of people attending a live UFC event travel from another state or country.
That's a huge portion of the crowd. Factor in those travel from another faraway part of the state (San Francisco to Los Angeles, for example), and you've got yourself quite a traveling roadshow.
UFC finally got it right by partnering with Orbitz to provide travel packages to fight fans through UFC.com. It centralizes everything the traveling fight fans needs: fight tickets, flight tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars.
“There is nothing like the live UFC experience, and this gives fans an easy way to book travel to UFC events around the world" UFC president Dana White said in a statement.
That's just good, smart business from both sides. Orbitz stands to make some money as it opens up a new revenue stream. UFC no doubt gets a few bucks per transaction, as well, since that's how most of these third-party partnerships work. Still, it makes it somewhat easier for the fight fan.
Now, you'll just have to wait and see how good the deals and packages are for travelers.
