As if the triangle choke wasn't already something you didn't want to get yourself caught up in. Well, how about having to eat punches to the face with your opponent's legs wrapped around your arm and head.
Such was the case for Alex Karalexis.
Early in the second round, he was on the ground with Anthony Pettis. Not good.
Pettis rather easily put Karalexis into a triangle and then, for added measure, wailed away on his head. Karalexis (10-5) tapped out from the triangle choke 1:35 into the second round of their lightweight bout at WEC 48 in Sacramento.
For Pettis (9-1), this was a good win during the Spike prelims, in front of a big crowd on a big card. What does that mean in comparison to winning on a regular WEC on Versus card? More eyes are on the WEC tonight for its first pay-per-view card, thereby giving Pettis slightly more name recognition than normal.
The lightweight division in WEC needs to develop more names and stars, even if the UFC will likely absorb all their fighters late this year or early next year. This win for Pettis can only help him become that next name.
