Long Islander in NASCAR's marketing competition

Emmanuel Ortiz ,of North Massapequa N.Y., and a 2008 graduate of Farmingdale High School, is part of a national NASCAR marketing competition called NASCAR Kinetics. 

Ortiz and four other students comprise the University of Central Florida's NASCAR Kinetics team.

According to a release, NASCAR developed NASCAR Kinetics last year and it is described as "Marketing in Motion" with the mission of exposing and educating college students across the nation to the NASCAR brand. The program provides college students with hands-on learning experience from professionals in the world of motorsports.   

The program is available each fall and spring semester and a maximum of 5 students will be chosen from each participating college or university.  These students will work together to produce one submission for each of the assigned case studies and projects, while working under the direction of one assigned team leader. Each participating school will be competing against each other for the grand prize of an all-expense paid trip to a NASCAR race weekend in Miami. 

In high school, Ortiz was on Farmingdale's baseball team and was a member of the  National Honor Society.
