Vincent Nobile, a 19-year-old Adelphi student from Long Island, became the youngest driver to win in the history of NHRA's 41-year-old factory hot rod category. He beat Rodger Brogdon by just one-thousandth of a second Sunday at Houston's Royal Purple Raceway.
"It's really indescribable to be honest," said Nobile via phone Monday, back home on Long Island. "It's a great feeling. Having my father [John Nobile] there at the finish line when I won meant the world to me. As soon as I saw my father we both kind of broke down in tears. It was a moment I will always treasure."
There wasn't a lot of time to celebrate for Nobile. He flew back from Houston Monday morning and jumped back into school work.
"It does get hectic some times," said the business management major. "When I travel, I just know that come Monday, I am going to have a lot of school work."
