Former Richardson Invitational champion Sean Hartman

(Indian Hills Country Club) beat Stephen Rose (Fresh Meadow CC), 6 and 5, to

win the Long Island Amateur Championship on Friday at the Huntington Crescent

Club. Rose, the 1999 L.I. Amateur champion, led Hartman 1-up after the first 18

holes of the 36-hole match. But Hartman, who earned medalist honors in the

qualifying round with a 72, won four of the next five holes to take control.

North Hempstead Country Club's Hunter Semels, the defending champion, fell to

Bethpage's Casey Alexander, 2 and 1, in the first round.

Also, Bob and Tyler Randol took advantage of their home course in capturing

the LIGA's Father/Son Championship on Tuesday at Rockaway Hunting Club. Bob, a

former club champion, and Tyler, a member of the University of Richmond golf

team, combined to shoot a 6-under-par 64, six shots better than Gerald and

Derren Garber, of Lake Success Golf Course.
