The signing of Kerry Collins by the Colts indicated the Peyton Manning injury was more serious than the team let on and now it appears that way. Manning is doubtful this week against the Texans, according to the Colts. Manning's streak of 227 consecutive games played is in jeopardy. Manning has soreness in his back following offseason neck surgery.
If you drafted in July or early August and didn't draft a backup for Manning, it's an example of why you should try and draft as close to the season as possible. If you're drafting the next few days, I wouldn't take Manning earlier than round 8 and if you do make sure you get a solid complement. Manning could be out for one week or several weeks or longer. It's unknown at this point. Collins will start in his place and while he is a veteran, it will take him some time to adjust to new receivers.
In other news, Deji Karim gets a boost in value with the season-ending knee injury to Rashad Jennings. He's a change of pace back with some nice speed and will be the backup behind Maurice Jones-Drew.
The Cardinals signed Chester Taylor, but he won't cut into the value of Beanie Wells. Taylor will need some time to acclimated to the Cardinals. He will be mainly used as a third-down back and pass protection, which is a weakness of Wells.
The Seahawks cut kicker Jeff Reed. Steve Hauschka will kick for Seattle.
The Redskins named Rex Grossman the Week 1 starter. Expect John Beck to eventually become the starter.
