I thought that Brett Anderson might be a good value pick this season. Well, it looks like that won't happen. The buzz is high around the A's second-year lefthander. Just a few weeks ago, his average draft position was around 250. Now, it's at 161 and it will likely climb higher.
Anderson struggled in the first half with a 5.47 ERA. but had a terrific second half last season in his rookie year. He went 7-4 with a 3.02 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. In 101 innings, he struck out 98. Overall, he went 11-11 with a 4.06 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. He had a 7.7 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9, which is excellent for Anderson, who was 21 last season. There is so much here to like.
He induces groundballs (51 percent) and limits the fly balls (34 percent). Anderson is someone you want on your fantasy team this season. He's excellent in keeper leagues and I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up being a top-20 pitcher this season.
