Bret Hart, Whipwreck, Aries on some big local indie shows

This time of year is typically known as “The WrestleMania Hangover.” But fear not. There’s plenty of wrestling action going on over the next few days to keep you occupied, including a few shows right here on Long Island.

. On Saturday, April 16, Fight The World Wrestling is holding an event at Center Island Sports in Ronkonkoma featuring WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hitman” Hart.

Bret will make a live appearance during the event, and also will be available for photos and autographs beginning at 6: 30 p.m. Ticket info is available at FTW’s official web site.

The show itself features a 25-man “over the top rumble,” in which the winner gets a shot at the FTW title at a time of his choosing. The title will also be defended Saturday night in a last man standing match when the champion Tattooed Ugly Lenn Oddity vs. Big Jim Sullivan.

. Also on Saturday, the New York Wrestling Connection returns to Port Jefferson Station with “April Reign.”

The show takes place at the Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge 2138 at 1141 Route 112. Doors open at 6 p.m. Bell time is 8 p.m.

The main event, for the NYWC Fusion Championship, features champ “The Greek God” Dimitrios Papadon defending against Chris Forza.

There’s also a tag team championship match and a match featuring former ECW champ Mikey Whipwreck.

. One of the most talked about independent wrestling groups in the country comes to our area on Tuesday, when EVOLVE Wrestling takes over the BB King Blues Club & Grill in Times Square. The show will also be broadcast live on Internet Pay Per View at

EVOLVE is headed up by ROH founder and former booker Gabe Sapolsky, and features some of the most talented wrestlers on the indie scene. Tuesday’s “EVOLVE 7” show includes a huge main event pitting 2-time ROH champ Austin Aries against recently-signed WWE developmental talent Jon Moxley.
