The WWE did a heck of a job keep Shawn Michaels’ appearance and Hall of Fame announcement a secret last night on Raw. HBK looked genuinely happy to be back in front of a crowd and his Hall of Fame video was nothing short of remarkable. The WWE usually does a great job with retrospective videos like that.
As for HBK going into the HOF, it’s a smart move by the WWE. Last year’s class was a little weak in my opinion (Ted DiBiase, Antonio Inoki, Wendi Richter, Maurice "Mad Dog" Vachon, Gorgeous George, Bob Uecker, and Stu Hart). After his retirement last year at Wrestlemania, it makes perfect sense to induct HBK in 2011.
Having HBK involved at the HOF ceremony also means his chances of being involved at Wrestlemania increase. The star power is completely lacking this year compared to last year. I wouldn’t be shocked if HBK has a greater role at Wrestlemania like a special guest referee or something like that. Just last month I did a blog post on ways Michaels can be involved at the event and still keep his retirement in place.
By the way, I read internet reports that Michaels did not look like he was in shape to wrestle according to fans that saw him. He looked pretty good to me last night and can still deliver Sweet Chin Music in a hot second.
