Wrestlemania 27 predictions: The Undertaker vs. Triple H

NO HOLDS BARRED: THE UNDERTAKER VS. TRIPLE H

Alfonso: The only safer bet than predicting a John Cena victory at WrestleMania is predicting an Undertaker victory. There’s little reason to believe the ‘Taker vaunted streak won’t be extended to 19-0 this year—particularly against an opponent who is essentially a part of WWE management, and as such, appreciates as much as anybody the value of keeping the streak alive. In fact, in the recently released True Story of WrestleMania DVD, Triple-H, ostensibly out of character, opines that the streak should “never” come to an end. That said, Triple-H has been known to sometimes be downright delusional when it comes to his place in wrestling history. It’s not unthinkable that Triple-H would somehow rationalize why he should be the one to end the streak, seeing as how he is the greatest of all time and all that jazz. Still, I’d put the odds of a Triple-H win at less than 10 percent. The biggest question surrounding this match is how good will it be? With no Shawn Michaels on this show, ‘Taker and Triple-H are being expected to deliver the best match of WrestleMania, and as such, the best match of the year. Neither is nearly the athlete nor showman that Michaels is, so it will be interesting to see how they deliver. I expect a crazy brawl filled with the kind of shortcuts (broken tables, ladders, etc.) that can make a match appear better than the men who compete in it.

Pick: The Undertaker

Anthony: Some streaks are made to be broken, but not this one – 19-0 come this Sunday. The streak is a draw and to break it one year before a round number like 20 is absurd. Not to mention, if someone is going to break it, it needs to be a young stud who will benefit from the “rub.” Triple H doesn’t need to end the streak to be a Hall of Famer; he’s already reached legendary status. The x-factor here is what kind of a role, if at all, does Shawn Michaels play? Don’t expect a wrestling match. This will be a fight and I’m putting money on it right now, Triple H bleeds….. A lot. I know blood is not a common scene anymore in the PG programming of the WWE, but this match is going to have to be brutal to cover up the ring rust and injuries these two men are carrying.

Pick: The Undertaker

Seth: There is NO money in ending the streak. They've done an interesting job creating intrigue -- including the "You can't win" line on Raw, which effectively turned HHH face and Taker heel, with fans always pulling behind the guy who's told he can't do something. But they'd be leaving a metric ton of money on the table if HHH wins. Imagine the build to next year and 20-0. Look for lots of gimmicks and craziness in this one (hence the "No Holds Barred") to cover up both participants' physical limitations.

Pick: The Undertaker
