If it wasn't for his defense, Blue Jays infielder Brett Lawrie might already be on the major league roster. Lawrie continues to crush the ball at Triple-A. He went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs yesterday and is batting .346 with a .403 on-base percentage and a .633 slugging percentage, 11 home runs, 37 RBIs and nine stolen bases.
The Blue Jays have received very little production from third base. Edwin Encarnacion continues to be a nightmare defensively and isn't hitting. Jayson Nix and John McDonald aren't solutions either. The Blue Jays want Lawrie to improve his plate discipline and he is drawing more walks recently.
Lawrie is also learning to play third base. He was primarily a second baseman before this season. That's another factor that could be keepinh him in the minors. Expect him to get called up soon. He should be owned in all AL-only leagues and even deeper mixed leagues.
