SAO PAULO - Barcelona right back Daniel Alves has been added to Brazil's Copa America squad.
Coach Dunga summoned Alves to replace defender Danilo, who won't be able to recover from a right ankle injury sustained in Brazil's warmup against Mexico on Sunday.
The Brazilian football confederation said Thursday that Danilo had to be dropped from the squad because of the injury. He had already missed Wednesday's warmup against Honduras.
Brazil will be traveling to the tournament in Chile without several players because of injuries, including playmaker Oscar, left back Marcelo and defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo.
Alves has been a regular for Brazil since 2007. He was in the team that won the Copa America that year, when Dunga was also the coach.
Brazil opens this year's tournament against Peru on Sunday.
