England center back Rio Ferdinand and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba will miss the 2010 World Cup due to injuries, according to multiple reports.
Ferdinand, who has been working his way back from multiple injuries, hurt his knee in training and suffered some ligament damage. Tottenham's Michael Dawson has been named as his injury replacement and midfielder Steven Gerrard will take the captain's arm band.
Drogba's injury came in the 15th minute of a friendly against Japan. He collided with defender Tulio Tanaka and reportedly fractured his elbow. Although head coach Sven Goran-Eriksson would not confirm, this would be an absolutely devastating blow to Ivory Coast. Watch footage from the game below:
