Jozy Altidore, the United States' best goal-scoring option on the attack, suffered a mild ankle sprain during training and is listed as day to day. X-rays came back negative.
Altidore will undergo fitness tests today to see if he's able to play in Saturday's friendly against Australia. Though he may miss that match against the Socceroos, some of his teammates are confident he'll be good to go against England the following week.
"We all hope Jozy will get better. We think he will," goalkeeper Tim Howard said in an AP report. "We're not losing sleep over it."
Altidore led the U.S. in scoring during World Cup qualifying and scored the first goal in its 2-1 win over Turkey May 29. If he's unable to play tomorrow, head coach Bob Bradley likely will test out his other options at forward: Herculez Gomez, Edson Buddle and Robbie Findley.
