The Washington Post's Steven Goff has profiled American center back Clarence Goodson, a Virginia-native, in today's edition so if you don't know much him, give it a read.
Goodson was a late arrival on Team USA's radar (he played in two of the team's 14 games in 2009), but seems to be on his way to earning a World Cup roster spot as a backup center back. His performance in this year's friendlies, and steady play for his club team in Norway, has given him the inside edge to claim as spot on the bench in summer's tournament. He recently jumped ahead of two-time MLS Defender of the Year, Chad Marshall, who was invited to camp, but is hampered by a hamstring injury.
Goodson is wrapping up a nice career at IK Start in Norway and is in the last year of his contract. He can only hope a World Cup invite will raise his stock so he can land in a more prominent league, such as Germany's Bundesliga, Goff writes.
