HORSE RACING$5M purse offer made

to 'Rachel,' Zenyatta

Oaklawn Park is throwing a $5-million purse at star females Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta to meet for the first time at the Apple Blossom in April. The racetrack in Hot Springs, Ark., announced that the owners of both champion horses are receptive to the idea. No firm commitments have been made.

PRO FOOTBALLRyan adds ex-assistant

Rex Ryan is adding someone he is familiar with to his staff: Mark Carrier. The Jets are bringing in Carrier to be the team's defensive line coach, though no formal announcement was made Thursday. Carrier, who's been on the Ravens' coaching staff since 2006 and spent time under Ryan in Baltimore, was the Ravens' defensive backs coach for the past four seasons. Carrier will work again with Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, the Ravens' outside linebackers coach from 2005-08. NBADunleavy quits as coach

Mike Dunleavy has stepped down as the Los Angeles Clippers' coach, retaining his job as general manager. Assistant coach Kim Hughes will replace Dunleavy.


Pride women win

Senior center Jess Fuller had 14 points and became Hofstra's all-time leader in career blocked shots in a 72-39 win over host George Mason. Fuller had one block, giving her 176 for her career. Nicole Capurso scored 20 for Hofstra (12-10, 5-5 CAA).

USA Hockey has chosen Anaheim's Ryan Whitney and Carolina's Tim Gleason to replace injured defensemen Paul Martin and Mike Komisarek in the Vancouver Olympics.- AP
