Steve Matthews’ Belmont selections for Sunday, Sept. 25

Best bet: CULPA MIA (6)

Best value: TO THE VICTOR (5)

FIRST: Sunday Gravy logged three solid works since improved third last time; more to come. Honor Way was a late-running second in debut; added quarter-mile could play to strength. Starr Bear has finished third in both starts; continues trend?

SECOND: Steamboat Bill exits fast-figured second in last; rates close call based on price. Gracious Plenty was a determined winner in last; very playable. Twenty Four Seven also was victorious in last start; right in the thick of this.

THIRD: Tale of Mist should find already ample late kick intensified with cutback to mile. I’m Amazing adds blinkers and could prove very tough on an unchallenged lead. Winning Road is training with a purpose for first start in 10 months; worth long look.

FOURTH: Three Perfections has trained sharply since fast-paced fourth in most recent start; forward move predicted. War of Ideas is working strongly for first start in 11 months for Chad Brown; be no surprise. T R Crew holds sharp current condition and moves to grass for Dave Donk; dangerous.

FIFTH: To the Victor was a determined victor the first time he touched Belmont park loam; pairs up. Marble Falls chased sizzling splits and paid the price last out; very dangerous. You Know I Know has logged top figures in last two starts; logical, short-priced threat.

SIXTH: Culpa Mia gets Lasix and moves to grass after making middle move and fading in debut; tighter today. Bellavais also gets the meds and fired half-mile bullet since tough-trip third in debut; very playable. Orecchiette bested Bellavais by a head when second in debut; right in the thick of this.

SEVENTH: Securitiz moves to grass and owns swift late-pace and final numbers; handles surface switch. Slim Shadey was second in last and logs fast final fractions on best efforts; dangerous. Made in Detroit is speedy and could prove very tough on an uncontested lead.

EIGHTH: Flipcup tallied swift late-pace figure when making sustained run for second last time; rates close call in contentious NY-bred stake. Fourstar Crook bested top selection by nearly a length when winning fifth in a row last time; obviously can take another. Swear by It loves Belmont sod and could impact at fat ticket if pace meltdown ensues. Invading Humor’s speed gives her a puncher’s chance.

NINTH: Baronet is speedy, rested and notched only win on Belmont turf; call in wide-open nightcap. Kitty Maddnes was pace and trip compromised in last; improvement predicted. Candida logged best numbers on Belmont grass at spring-summer meeting; dangerous. Rosedale Arch bested a next-out winner when second in last; big-time player.
